Thirty-nine steel producers in India have submitted applications for "green steel" certification
According to a report by India's largest information platform "Rediff" on August 3rd, 39 major producers in India's steel industry have submitted certification applications in accordance with the country's newly issued "green steel" classification standards.
Bhupathi Raju Srinivas Varma, India's Minister of Steel, said that the relevant certification would be awarded to enterprises that meet the classification criteria of the "green Steel". The institution responsible for certification measurement, reporting and verification work is the National Institute of Recycled Steel Technology (NISST) of India.
India officially announced the "Green Steel" standard on December 12, 2023. This standard classifies steel into three grades based on the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions generated during the production process: three-star "green steel" has carbon emissions of less than 2.2 tons per ton of steel, four-star "green steel" has carbon emissions ranging from 1.6 tons per ton of steel to 2.0 tons per ton of steel, and five-star "green steel" has carbon emissions of less than 1.6 tons per ton of steel.
