The Simandou iron ore project is progressing "satisfactorily" as planned

In June 19 local time, Chris Acheson, the general manager of SimFer, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, publicly reported on the progress of the Simandou project in the fiscal year 2025, stating that the project is "satisfactorily" advancing as planned.

The construction of the iron mine, the For cariah port, the railway branch line and the locomotive equipment of this project is all proceeding as scheduled. The first batch of permanent steel structure buildings in the mining area have been installed. In terms of railway branch lines, five Bridges have been completed and the track laying is progressing smoothly, with a total of 55 kilometers completed. In May, the first train of 143 CTG (Trans-Guinea) iron ore transport locomotives was delivered in India. The first two are scheduled to arrive in Guinea in October, and another four are planned to arrive in November. The Win Alliance report indicates that the overall progress of infrastructure projects is in line with the schedule committed by the government and its partners.

The company is also committed to bringing the benefits of the project to the local residents. At present, over 81% of the project team members are local employees from Guinea. The company focuses on cultivating local talents through vocational training and cooperation with local enterprises. In 2024, the company invested 6.5 million US dollars to support local community development and built 7 new schools benefiting over 2,500 children. In May 2025, the company launched a fishermen's livelihood restoration project in Freecaria, providing sustainable alternative livelihood solutions for groups affected by port development.
